The closest I’ve got to knitting lately….. May 8, 2007

….is getting mentioned on the Yarn Harlots blog!! I know, I’m such a dork to be excited about this. She was faced with a problem, to rip out part of a sweater and fix a ribbing problem or to just leave it, and in the last little blurb of her blog she took a line from Shakespeare. This got my attention, because I had JUST gotten over memorizing 20 lines of one of Hamlet’s soliloquy’s for my Lit class. So, I re-wrote the lines I memorized into a knitting version. I was very excited when she replied in an e-mail to my comment, and then whe I was browsing her blog again she mentioned me and another poster that re-wrote song lyrics to “whip it”!! This made my day 🙂

This is also an example of why I haven’t been knitting or posting. No time for that when I have thigs to memorize, and a little thing called graduating!! I really hope to start knitting again once finals are done, something pretty for summer as a celebration! I know there are some things in the new Knitty I have my eye on, so it may be another month before I post again…….

p.s. here is my soliloquy if you don’t want to search throuhg the hundreds of comments:

To rip or not to rip, that is your question.

Wether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer, the slings and arrows of this messed up knitting,

or to rise up against a sea of mistakes,

and by oposing, fix them? To knit, to sleep, to sleep, perchance to dream, ay there’s the rub. For in that sleep of finnished knitting other dreams may come, when we have given up this knitting, must give us pause. There’s the respect

that makes calamity of so long life,

for thy knitter themselve may stab and poke

with a double point.

To grunt and sweat under such a decision,

only to fear of other mistakes, puzzles the will

and makes us bear those mistakes we made before

thus mistakes do make cowards of us all

and thus our native hue of resolution

is sick’lied o’er with our past thoughts of knitting.

With this regard our currents turn awry, and choose our course of action.

Hi everyone! It’s been a looong time since I’ve blogged. I have a good reason, I was in Spain! Yes I wasy lucky enough to explore Spain over spring break, and now I’m back! Sadly I didn’t find any yarn (although I saw lots of sheep while driving through the country side), but I did have lots of fun shopping! We saw lots of old buildings, and even a flamenco dancing show! I’m tired and trying to catch up on home work, so here is a few highlights from my trip:

Check back for more pictures, I took so many that it would take me forever to upload them all at once!

Now that I’m back in my sewing class every day, there has been a lot less knitting. I was working on finnishing my last Jaywalker sock (got passed the heel and have only a few inches to go), but then it was time for me to sew. I’ve turned to a new set of patterns, Built by You from Simplicity.

Built by Wendy, a hip New York designer has this line fo patterns with Simplicity. They are amazing, I’m working on this very cute top and my next one will be a tunic from two new patterns she released. They are simple, quick and cute. Plus she has a sewing book that comes with three patterns! I’ve heard it’s more for beginner sewers, but I really want to take a look at it. You never know, it may be helpful, even just as an inspriation.

She had a sewing contest back in October where people submitted what they’ve made with her patterns. Everyone has such different and creative ideas, even the same pattern can be different! From simple things as the type of fabric and the length, to toallay changing it (like a girl that turned a cropped coat pattern into a cape!).

Wow, I really sound like a rep. for Built by Wendy, but I do truly love her patterns. Once I have made most of them, I will have this great pattern collection so I can make myself wonderful clothing. I can’t wait to see my closet after this!!!

P.S. I’ll post pictures of my finnished Jaywalkers asap, I’m so close to being done!

Now back to our regulary scheduled program….. January 6, 2007

Knitting! That’s what this blog is about, usually…………

I had an itch to knit ANOTHER scarf the other day when I saw someone’s My So Called Scarf on Craftster, and really wanted to make it. But when I started to knit it in Crystal Palace’s Taos (yummy!), it just didn’t look right to me. So I hunted for another pattern and settled with Matildas Mosaic Scarf from MagKnits. I really like it so far, and hope I have enough black yarn in my stash!!

This is the Crystal Palace yarn in colour number seven and the scarf so far….

Close up of stitching

In other knitting news, I haven’t been working much on my WIP’s. I still have the second Jay Walker sock on my needles, as well as a forgotten hat and scarf. I also really wanted to start a cardigan out of chunky yarn, but I can’t really afford to at the moment (saving money is hard). So I guess it will just be stash busting projects and finnishing off WIP’s until I go to Europe over spring break. Oh, and if you were interested in my room, it’s mostly done with moving in, now all I need to do is finnish the little touches.

A little off topic……. December 28, 2006

Calimor……. you know what I mean! December 26, 2006

I give up. This is the second time I’ve knit this thing. I’m not blaming the pattern, I blame myself. I thought it would look good, nice soft, yummy, pink, fluffy yarn. NOT as head gear. Unless you want a big fluffy bright pink head. Now I love this yarn, and I love the pattern (have it memorized and will knit it another, in non fluffy yarn), just not together. So back to the ripping stage it goes. I really hope I can make some nice, soft, fluffy slipper socks with the yarn, because I really do like it. It just wasn’t meant to be, Calimor………..thing.

Merry Christmas everyone! December 26, 2006

So I swear I wrote a bunch of draft posts, meaning to add pcitures but then I forgot/became lazy, so that’s why the blog has been cold. I’m back, and with knitting!!

So how was everyone’s Christmas? Mine was amazing, watching my cats play in the wrapping, and playing with my new toys. I was lucky enough to get this really cool ipod speaker, it’s a little circle (reminds me of a UFO) and all you do is sit the ipod on top. It also has a remote 🙂 Then my dear friend Ori got me the yummiest yarn. Moda-Dea Dream, in an almost edible rasberry colour. I started making a Calimorety (sp??) with it but didn’t realize the pattern was soooo big! So many people have complained about it, but I think the pictures are just misealding us to think it’s a nice little headband. However, the real pattern is quite huge! Now I’m sure it’s good for lots of people, but I just want a little fuzzy headband! So I will frog it. I’m so far too, I started it yesterday and am about half way into the decreases, but already it’s almost 6 inches wide!!! Oh well, on the plus side, I know it will look great when it’s done!

Also, my mom found the cutest little ornament. It’s an angel holding a kitty, and it reminds me of me! I love Suzie soooooo much, so I will always have her with me with this ornament.

Another new toy I have been playing with since 6 AM this morning is my new camera! Yes, I woke up at 5 AM only to be squished into Futureshop with hundreds of other people.  It was funny, we got there at 5:30 and there was a good sized line (500 at least) and then we hear screaming. They opened the store half an hour early! There were even tv crews! So me and my dad booted it to the door and found our way to the camera section where we quickly got an employes attention to get us in line to pay. My original boxing day shopping plans were to order online, but I didn’t realize they started the sale on December 24th! So the camera I wanted was sold out because it was such a good deal. I swear, this is my last boxing day adventure!!

P.S. I forgot to tell you what kind of camer! It’s a Casio Exilim Z60. I t has twice as many mega pixels as my old camera and twice the screen size! It has many good features (this best shot stuff) and I am having fun taking pictures of everything. One of my favorit features is that is organizes your pictures by date. So when I go on my trip to Europe in the spring, I can look at the pictures day by day to really remember where I was (incase I forget where the 50th picture of a church was taken) I’m so full of energy I just know I’ll fall asleep at like 5 pm!!

That’s all for now, I’ll post again when I finnish the Cal. and have more knitting pictures to share 🙂

I was very sad to discover this weekend that one of my favoit LYS had closed. I was on the search for some black, feltable yarn to make myself a litle cloche. I went out to my two favorit yarn stores, to discover one had been turned into a quiliting store! I was so sad, it carried my favorit brand of circular needles and had some very nice yarn (Cascade, Debbie Bliss, the list could go on..). However, I finnaly got a chance to go out to a new LYS that has thaken the place of the one I just lost.

It is amazing. One wall of Cascade 220 in a rainbow of colours. Plus Koigue(spelt wrong I’m sure, but this is the first place that I have found to carry it!) Plus Lorna’s lace, Debbie Bliss and much more! I also saw roving, lots of books and self-dyeing kits!! I could only spend a few moments there getting my yarn, but I can’t wait to go and spend hours there. Plus, they wind your yarn while you wait in the line to pay!

So far, so good for knitting. I finnished that blue scarf, and have decided to keep it. It looks nice with my red coat and is very warm. I also started the I Live On A Farm hat, but I don’t think I will do the optional band, I love the look of seed stitch! And the little white scarf is on hold, because I found an adorable cloche hat pattern on Craftster saturday night, which lead me on my yarn hunt. It is in the washing machine at the moment, and I really hope it works about because it looked a bit small to be felted………. oh well I have plenty of yarn if I need to make a bigger one. I’m always nervous when I felt things but I love felting.

jupiterjessica, the pattern for the Hermione hat can be found here:

Isn’t it beautiful? There is also a matching mitten pattern! I just love Harry Potter knits 🙂

Well that’s all for now, I will update you about the hat and will add pictures of my two recent FO’s.

Weekend update November 13, 2006

Sadly my three day weekend is almost over. It was very relaxing, especially with all my easy knitting projects. I can’t believe I have two scarves on the go, but I can’t help it. I am also hoping to knit myself another hat. My friend had her neighbour knit her a Herminone hat (like the one she wears in POA) in red and I would like to knit myslef one in grey. I want to know how to make those cute bobbles and I think it’s a really great hat pattern, even if you aren’t obsessed with Harry potter.

So onto my knitting. I am almost done my basic ribbed scarf. I was knitting it peacfully by the fire until Suzie came along. She has this thing about natural fibers, she just has to chew on them!! Oh well, I guess I need to add cat toys to my list of things to knit. She is a very lucky cat to have someone knit for her!!! Also, I started a double seed stitch scarf, using a pattern from I live On A Farm..  I just discovered this blog and I love it!!! I made the scarf a bit wider than I would like so I am going to continue knitting it (becasue I don’t want to frog my work) and will just fold it in half and sew up the edges when it’s done.

Finally, I have a FO that is long overdue for a blog entry. I made myslef a blanket in October when I was inspired by a fellow knitter I worked for over the Thanksgiving weekend. It is purple and very warm for acrylic. It took me a little under two weeks and it’s amazing. Very quick on big fat needles and the cats love it. So now when I watch tv and knit on the couch, I have the blanket and a cat to keep my company.

That’s all the updates I have for now. I am supposed to be knitting a hat for my school’s knitting club to donate to charity, but I need to cast on again because the first time I made it way to big!!! Maybe I can donate one of my scarves so they know I am trying to knit for others as well as myself. Oh, and I still want to knit those Snicket socks from Mag Knits as soon as I find grey sock yarn. Wish me luck!!!

Life is moving forward. School is busy, yet I am managing to squeeze in knitting time. I still haven’t finnished my Jaywalker socks, but I am getting there!

Here is proof:

Also, I have been starting up other projects. Maybe it’s the weather or maybe I’m just stash busting but these projects seem to jump out at me.

You will also notice that nifty Stitch ‘N Bitch day calendar. Late birthday gift from my sister, that i chose myself. I can’t wait to use it next year!!

And finally, some good news. I get a new room soon! My sister is moving out at the end of the month so I get her old room! It’s bigger and upstairs so I can have the kitties in whenever I want! Plus I get to paint it and move everything in so that will be fun. Look forward to photos! I am hoping to set up something for my knitting, I can’t wait!!
